It’s a rare treat to have an opportunity to own a piece of luxury property in the exclusive community of Smithcliffs. This secluded, gated enclave includes just over 20 homes. As such, it’s unusual to see a listing for one of these stunning properties.
Are you in the market for a truly exceptional Laguna Beach home? If so, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment for a private viewing of a Smithcliffs estate.
Smithcliffs was first developed in 1995 and since that time has become one of the most sought-after communities in Laguna Beach and Orange County. The exclusive neighborhood is small, and one circular street traverses the entire community. Because of the community’s small size, it does not feature amenities such as a pool or clubhouse that some of the nearby gated communities offer. However, Smithcliffs residents do enjoy private beach access on one of the most beautiful stretches of sand in Southern California. The community itself if perched on top of a 200-foot bluff which provides striking views of the Pacific Ocean.
Just over 20 estate-sized homes are located within gates of Smithcliffs, and each property has a desirable sense of privacy. Most homes are designed with a classic Mediterranean or European style and are either oceanfront or ocean view. These estates are perfect for both family living and entertaining and offer some of the most upscale amenities in the area. Here you’ll find homes with the finest finishes, state-of-the-art technology, luxurious outdoor living spaces and unparalleled views of the Pacific Ocean.
Smithcliffs is located in the North Laguna area of town, just south of Emerald Bay and north of Crescent Bay. It is situated within minutes of all the shops, restaurants and attractions that have made Laguna Beach famous. Plan an afternoon picnic at Heisler Park while people-watching and enjoying the ocean breezes . Or take a stroll and browse the many galleries offering extended hours and specials during First Thursdays Art Walk. Other nearby attractions include the Sawdust Art Festival, Art-A-Fair and Festival of Arts.
The Smithcliffs community sits on land that has a storied and colorful history – not uncommon for Laguna Beach. During the 1920s, Florence Pancho Barnes occupied the land. She was a pilot and socialite who hosted lavish parties at her home for Hollywood celebrities. Local legend has it that she and her friends would ride horseback in the moonlight while nude. Furthermore, she’s famous for building a landing strip on her property to fly in her famous friends. In the 1930s Barnes lost the property, and it eventually landed in the hands of oil tycoon Lon Smith. Smith sold the land to the developer Gary Brinderson in 1985. After many years of negotiations with government officials and environmentalists, the community of Smithcliffs was born.
