Each month’s session will rotate locations, mediums and instructors offered. Each session costs $25 and includes all materials, with your choice of Thursday or Saturday from 9:00am to 11:00am. On February 29th, the trio, Bossa Zuzu, featuring Dan Reckard on saxophone, will perform everything from recent popular Brazilian music and original compositions to reinterpretations of classic Bossa Nova songs. Then, on March 14th the Josh Nelson Quartet is sure to please listeners with a personal touch, tone and “sound” that are uniquely the young Josh Nelson’s. March 28th, Laguna Beach Live! will host the Joshua White Trio whose lead pianist converses throughout his performance with the band and the audience.

For each of these Jazz events, the exquisite Laguna Room opens at 5:00pm, in time for guests to view a stunning sunset while enjoy food and beverage offered for purchase. From the works of the Italian Renaissance to modern masterpieces, The Genius will fill the Irvine Bowl with amazing live recreations of unforgettable classical and contemporary artworks, including a finale of Leonardo de Vinci’s The Last Supper. The stage will be intricately set and sophisticatedly lighted as real people – volunteers from your Laguna Beach community – pose to look exactly like the human subjects in original pieces of artwork. The concert and art exhibit event is presented by Laguna Beach Live! and the Laguna College of Art & Design as part of the Laguna Beach Live! program. You’ll be in the center of where the art happens, in a variety of artists’ studios located throughout Laguna Beach most of them nestled along Laguna Canyon Road. Those studios are surrounded by gorgeous oak trees which, along with the rich canyon colors, provide a beautiful creative backdrop for many artists. Other studios are located where the canyon meets downtown on Ocean Avenue. Don’t miss these last days of Open Studios, held next on Saturday, February 4th, 2012 from 11am to 4pm. The Laguna Beach Music Festival is presented by Laguna Beach Live! and the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. It’s a multi-featured festival with events and activities scheduled in a number of intimate, human-sized venues created for the casual listener, the trained, cultured ear and the admiring creative types. The music reminds us all of a time when songs like these brought America together and then changed us. Those who remember it will enjoy a walk down memory lane and those who didn’t live through the musical eras will have a firsthand experience to begin their journey. Lonesome Traveler takes us on a meandering musical journey “from the backwoods of Appalachia to the nightclubs of New York and San Francisco; from the mid 1920s to the mid 1960s.” It’s a trip you can’t miss.

Local architect David Parker will conduct the presentation, covering John Lautner’s lauded works, including his unique approach to design, and how it has influenced Mr. Parker’s own work. John Lautner (1911-1984) studied under Frank Lloyd Wright and began his own professional career in Los Angeles. He is known for his dramatic custom homes that pushed boundaries of design and technology. Even those homes that he designed and built over 50 years ago are audacious and daring by today’s standards and have influenced generations of architects since. This event will be held on Wednesday, January 25th at 6:30pm at the Deilzan Fine Art Gallery at 224 Forest Avenue. Open to all, there is no charge for this event. The distinguished performers are local residents who perform or teach music professionally, including Bill Hunker, professional bassoon player, and “music teacher extraordinaire” at Anneliese Schools, Heinrich Martin, professional classic pianist, Mike Hoffman, principal trombone player for the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and Dana Freeman, violinist with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra.
