Best Hikes in Laguna Beach

The holidays are right around the corner. That means party season is upon us, which can wreak havoc on the diets of even the healthiest eaters. One of the perks of living in Laguna Beach is being able to exercise outdoors all year. So if you find you’ve overindulged a time or two, simply head outside and try one of these incredible local hikes.

For a leisurely stroll

Not every hike has to be super intense. Sometimes all you need is a little fresh air and to get the blood pumping. You’ll find exactly what you’re looking for in Crystal Cove State Park. The park features a coastal trail that takes you from Cyrstal Cove to Laguna Beach. It’s a paved, 2.5-mile trail that follows the top of the bluffs. You’ll enjoy lovely views and fresh ocean breezes. It’s also the only trail in the park that allows leashed dogs. So don’t be afraid to bring your best friend – they could probably use the exercise too!

For a more moderate hike

If you’re looking for something more than an easy walk, you’ll find a great trail in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. The Little Sycamore Canyon Loop Hike is a five mile trail that will take you about two hours to complete. It’s a good workout with a variety of different terrains. Not only is this trail easy to reach, it also provides a feeling of being in the wilderness. This hike is great for burning off that round of handcrafted cocktails from the Stateroom Bar. And you’ll get to enjoy some gorgeous views in the process.

For a serious workout

If that delicious pie from Andree’s Patisserie kept calling your name, you’re going to need crank your workout up a notch or two. The Water Tank Trail has one of the steepest grades in Laguna Beach. It’s perfect for working those muscles and working up a sweat. It doesn’t take long to reach the peak – about 15 minutes – and you’ll be rewarded with scenic ocean views. Take the trail a little farther and you’ll be deep in the wilderness, surrounded by canyon views. This is a great workout during the holidays to keep those extra calories from adding up.

For the best views

There’s a reason the Top of the World hike is one of the most popular trails in Laguna Beach. The scenic lookout at the top gives hikers some of the best views in the city. It’s a favorite among both locals and visitors. The trail is part of the Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park and Alta Laguna Park is located here. While you’re enjoying the views, you can play baseball, basketball or tennis. Or pack a lunch and grab one of the picnic tables. The park also features children’s play equipment, so it’s great for the little ones.
